The editor of Umafrika in Durbanis concerned that journalists are being targeted in meetings by top ANC and KwaZulu-Natal government officials.

ANC leaders slammed journalist at the party's eThekwini regional general council meeting recently.

In a resolution on the role of the media, the meeting said: "The consistent fabrication of facts by some journalists known to be unleashing a vicious attack on the leadership of our movement."

Cyril Madlala, pictured, said it was imperative that the "affected" media take the matter to the highest level.

Madlala said: "This attack does not involve ordinary leaders of the ANC. It involves high-ranking officials in government. It is a matter of urgency that the issue must be raised with the government.

"Journalists in this province have had to endure enough pressure in the 1980s and early 1990s under the apartheid government. One would have expected a better understanding from our new dispensation. The naming and shaming of journalists is unacceptable."
