Union slams strike violence

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (Fedusa) has condemned the outbreak of violence believed to be linked to the Metrobus strike.

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (Fedusa) has condemned the outbreak of violence believed to be linked to the Metrobus strike.

The federation said it condemned the criminal element that had prevailed during the strike.

Dennis George, Fedusa general secretary, said yesterday: "It is worrying that workers tend to take advantage of their right to strike to commit crime."

This statement followed incidents in which bus drivers had been attacked while on duty.

A bus driver was shot dead on Monday in Faraday, and another was shot and wounded in Kensington in Johannesburg last week.

Metrobus said it was possible that the shootings were linked to the ongoing strike which started on January 31. - Sapa
