A young woman told a hushed court yesterday how she lost her virginity to Gauteng's alleged serial rapist, Mongezi Samuel Jinxela, four years ago.
Testifying in the Johannesburg high court, the woman, who was only 18-years-old at the time, told the court that a few days before the alleged incident, she and her boyfriend had tried to become intimate, but had not "gone all the way".
The woman was testifying against Jinxela, 38, of Soweto, who is on trial for allegedly raping 65 women over a period of 10 years. The state alleges he gained the trust of the women by promising them jobs. Instead, he allegedly took them to the outskirts of Johannesburg where he raped and robbed them.
He is facing 261 charges, including 71 rapes, 64 kidnappings, 61 assaults and 62 aggravated robberies. The state alleges Jinxela raped some of the women more than once.
Jinxela, who kept himself busy by taking notes during the proceedings, has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Throughout the trial, he has avoided eye contact with the complainants and only looked at them when they identified him in court as the man who raped them.
Recounting her ordeal, the woman said she met Jinxela at the Johannesburg's park station.
She agreed to go with him after promising her that he could get her a job.
"We then took a taxi and alighted at Crown Mines. We started walking towards the bushes. As I was walking behind him, he suggested that I walk in front because he was scared of snakes.
"I then walked in front and he followed me. He then grabbed me by my shoulder and pushed me to the ground. He took off my clothes and raped me. He ordered me to stretch my legs. Afterwards he said that it seemed my boyfriend would have a problem with me," said the woman, sobbing.
