Richard Sterne, who won the Vodacom Championship after finishing tied for the lead with Louis Oosthuizen, was over the moon at the weekend.
He beat Oosthuizen in the second playoff and pocketed a whopping R348 000.
The event, played over 72 holes at the Pretoria Country Club, saw a good showing from four black players who made the halfway cut in this exciting tournament that started last Thursday and ended on Sunday.
The win is Sterne's first since the 2005 Nashua Masters and the fourth of his career, coming on the course he grew up on.
It's also an important step in his bid to regain some confidence after a disappointing season on the European Tour last year.
"I need to get some confidence going. My year in Europe was very erratic and I didn't enjoy that. But hopefully this is a good start to a good season," said Sterne.
James Kamte, heading the list of four black players, moved a step higher on the current money list and is ranked 19th going into the season's finale, the Telkom PGA Championship that tees off on Thursday.
Kamte fired a final round 67 to tie for 22nd spot with Wallie Coetzee and the up-and- coming Tyrone van Aswegen, who finished with a 68 in Pretoria.
One shot behind Kamte was Eugene Marugi, who finished the final round on 71.
Omar Sandys, who finished second in the Dimension Data Pro Am three weeks ago, carded 71 and tied for 32nd with Des Terblanche.
Sammy Daniels finished tied for 34th in a big group of players including Darren Griff, Andrew McLardy and Ryan Cairns. Tebogo Sefatsa finished last, but he made the cut.
