Parents want teachers out
Defiant Embekweni residents near East London have vowed to remove 17 teachers causing chaos at their embattled school.
Angry parents lashed out at the Embekweni Primary School teachers during an emotionally charged meeting with Eastern Cape Education MEC Johnny Makgato.
At the centre of the bitter feud is deputy principal Phumzile Mtatase and a senior teacher, Thembile Mncotsho, who parents have singled out as troublemakers at the school.
They accuse the two of leading a toyi-toyi and chalkdown protest in October after parents demanded a financial report after a school tour.
The parents claimed that since demanding the report in October, teaching had come to a standstill at the school.
Since teachers started their boycott four months ago, many parents have taken their children out of the school.
Makgato promised to return to the school after meeting with the South African Democratic Teachers' Union to get the teachers' side of the story.
