Trans African Concessions (Trac), the company that maintains the N4 connecting Pretoria and Maputo, is working on the preliminary design for the proposed Nelspruit Northern Ring Road.
The road will provide a route bypassing Nelspruit for motorists who now use the N4, which goes directly through the town.
Anita Heyl, spokesman for Trac, said the route would form part of the network facilitating traffic flow to the new 2010 sports stadium at Mataffin outside Nelspruit.
Heyl said an open day would be held today and tomorrow at their Nelspruit offices as part of the public participation process in the initial phase.
At this stage funding for construction of the road has not yet been approved, but if the green light is given, implementation is expected to start towards the end of this year.
