TOKYO - Japanese police yesterday arrested a businesswoman and her two associates for swindling 270 deaf people out of more than R160million.

Police said Yoko Kobayashi used sign language to persuade her victims to invest in her company, promising them high returns.

"They took advantage of the deaf people, who trusted them because they communicated with them in sign language," police said. - Sapa-AFP
