Bidvest Wits University striker Abraham Raselemane, right, appeared briefly in the Selosesha magistrates' court in Thabanchu, Free State, on Monday.

Raselemane, 28, handed himself over to the police at the Selosesha police station in Thabanchu after a warrant for his arrest was issued after he failed to appear in court a fortnight ago on a charge of failing to pay maintenance for his seven-year-old son, Kamogelo Tsie.

The Bafana Bafana utility player fathered the child with his high school sweetheart, Tsabeng Tsie.

Raselemane was also charged with contempt of court for failing to appear in court on the due date.

He was detained in custody by the police for more than an hour before being taken to court in the afternoon.

Tsie and Raselemane agreed in principle that he would pay R500 a month for the boy's maintenance, as well as R1 300 quarterly for his schooling.

Raselemane is said to be R3900 in arrears with his maintenance payments.

He was released on a warning and is due to appear in court again on April 13.
