SALT LAKE CITY - A man with a shotgun fired randomly in a historic shopping mall on Monday night, killing five people and injuring several more before he was killed, police said yesterday.

Hours later, police were still searching shops for shocked shoppers and employees who were hiding and awaiting a safe escort from Trolley Square.

"We have six fatalities and multiple victims in hospitals," the police's Detective Robin Snyder said.

"They were found throughout the mall. I don't know [if they are] male or female or [their] ages."

At least four people were hospitalised, three in critical conditions and one in a serious condition. - Sapa-AP
