The sixth World Congress on Religious Freedom will be held at the Cape Town Convention Centre from February 27 to March 1.

The conference, organised by the International Religious Liberty Association (IRLA), will bring together diplomats, experts and religious leaders under the theme "Combating Religious Hatred through Freedom to Believe".

"Religious-inspired violence is on the increase, with extremism and intolerance becoming the norm," said IRLA deputy secretary-general, Jonathan Gallagher.

It is its first congress in Africa. Previous congresses were held in Manila, Rome, Amsterdam, London and Rio de Janeiro.
