FNB must use its millions for jobs

We support all initiatives in the war against crime. However, the abandoned R20million campaign by First National Bank generates negativity rather than helping the situation.

We support all initiatives in the war against crime. However, the abandoned R20million campaign by First National Bank generates negativity rather than helping the situation.

FNB should have initiated a campaign to show that it is concerned and wants to help solve the rampant crime crisis.

Other big businesses that want to help fight crime must also take note.

Crime affects all of us. The police have to prevent and fight crime with limited resources.

Communities live in constant fear of being robbed by those of whom the song says: "Just leave them, they are trying to make a living . magents ayaphanda."

Without condoning criminality, I am convinced that the socioeconomic conditions of the majority of our people, the gross poverty, also fan the flames of crime.

The responsible thing FNB and all other corporations can do to give meaning to their claims of concern about crime, is to act more responsibly.

They must invest more money to create jobs rather than pump millions of rands into a campaign that seeks to harm, rather than help, our government.

The huge profits big business make could be better spent on creating quality jobs for South Africa's unemployed.
