The man accused of killing the mother-in-law of comedian Soli Philander has pleaded guilty to her murder in the Parys magistrates' court.

The man accused of killing the mother-in-law of comedian Soli Philander has pleaded guilty to her murder in the Parys magistrates' court.

Simon Matshwane, 20, pleaded guilty to theft, housebreaking, rape, murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

After admitting guilt, he told the court that he did not intend to kill or rape 72-year-old Eugene Schaefer.

The court heard that Schaefer had sustained 38 stab wounds to her face and neck .

Matshwane was arrested three days after the attack at his home in Parys.

Free State police said at the time that items belonging to Schaefer were found in his possession. - Sapa
