"If I were a judge, I would have given him a death sentence," said a 20-year-old woman shortly after sex molester John Peter Putter was sentenced to life in prison by the Johannesburg high court yesterday.
The woman was 16 when Putter sexually assaulted her in 2003.
She was one of three schoolgirls who were indecently assaulted by Putter.
Putter, who pretended to be an undercover police officer, was last week convicted of indecently assaulting the girls and of raping a minor.
The incidents took place between May and September 2003 in the Benoni and Kempton Park areas.
Putter, 34, was yesterday sentenced to three years for each of five counts of kidnapping and seven years for each of three counts of indecent assault.
In her judgement, Geraldine Borchers said Putter showed no remorse for his actions.
"The accused is a distinct danger to women.
"He has no chance of being rehabilitated. It does not matter if I send him to jail or to a psychiatric hospital, he will not be rehabilitated," she said, adding that the age of the girls on whom Putter preyed progressively decreased.
