The golfing fraternity and the community of Ekurhuleni in particular have lost one of their most distinguished golfers.
Tsekiso Samson Molefe, well-known as "Bra Tse", was shot and killed on Thursday last week on the N3 highway, just before the Vosloorus-Spuitview off ramp.
Like most black golfers, Molefe started his golfing career as a caddy.
He worked at Reading Country Club in Alberton during the 1970s.
Despite the oppressive regime of the time, Molefe was among those who persisted at the game and became a beacon of hope for today's golfers.
His early days as a golf sensation were sculptured at the Soweto Golf Club in Pimville. It was there that he became a brand as he consistently obliterated his opponents.
Before his untimely death, he was preparing to participate in a tour of senior golfers .
His commitment, dedication and passion for the sport won him respect among his fellow golfers.
To most golfers, Molefe epitomised discipline - a rare quality in any competitive sport. It is no surprise that he won a number of golf tournaments throughout the country as well as one in Namibia last year.
His proficiency in organising and coordinating golf tournaments earned him the respect of his peers.
As the cofounder of brands such as Thembe Lihle and Rainbow Golf Club in the 1990s, Molefe contributed immensely to promoting soccer, netball and golf in his community.
Molefe was born on December 7 1949 and married Judith on his birthday in 1977. They have three sons - Tshepo, Kgotso and Mohau.
Molefe was a warm and loving man who endeared himself to his community and his death has left many people deeply shocked.
He will be buried tomorrow at the Espark Cemetery in Klipoortjie, Germiston.
The service will be held at Leondale Community Hall from 8am.
