Three North West provincial traffic officers - including their supervisor - were today fired for issuing fraudulent drivers licenses, accepting bribes and committing acts of misconduct at the Driver Learner Testing Centre in Mabopane near Pretoria.

An appeal against their dismissal was today rejected by MEC for Transport, Roads and Community Safety Jerry Thibedi, pictured, who upheld an earlier sanction to have the culprits dismissed.

The MEC's decision is being communicated in writing to the culprits.

They are Kedibone Swaratlhe, Matsomane Faro and Fikile Masimola. They were found guilty by the disciplinary committee last year.

Thibedi has instructed that licences issued illegally by the three dismissed traffic officers be nullified.

"My decision to declare the fraudulently issued licences null and void is intended to send a strong message to members of the community who connive with these fraudulent traffic officers," warned Thibedi.
