Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and senior ANC leaders have tried to smooth feathers ruffled over the treatment of the party's former Western Cape leader, Allan Boesak, The Star reported yesterday.

The cleric is believed to have been persuaded to withdraw as a speaker at Adelaide Tambo's memorial service in Cape Town on Wednesday after he had originally been asked by Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane to deliver the homily.

Mlambo-Ngcuka had a private word with Boesak during the service when mourners were asked to shake each others' hands in the Anglican tradition of sharing peace. - Sapa
