No stone should be left unturned in meting out justice to the brutes who raped and murdered 14-year-old Soweto schoolgirl Thato Radebe, triggering public outrage at the gruesome deed.

No stone should be left unturned in meting out justice to the brutes who raped and murdered 14-year-old Soweto schoolgirl Thato Radebe, triggering public outrage at the gruesome deed.

This newspaper has been inundated with letters and calls from angry readers since her death was reported on Monday.

We share and understand their anger.

People who treat other human beings like beasts have no room in this country or, for that matter, anywhere in the world.

We therefore laud the police for the swift arrest of three suspects allegedly involved in this dastardly act.

As in the case of slain historian David Rattray, the police have done a sterling job in cracking both cases in the space of a few days.

Such breakthroughs ought to be lauded to shore up flagging public confidence in the capacity of the police to turn the tide against crime.

Thato became another crime statistic in a country where crime threatens to destabilise our democracy.

Police investigating her grisly murder must prepare a watertight case for the prosecution so that those involved in this horrendous deed can be convicted and sentenced to rot in jail.
