Sugar may prove to be sweeter than honey when Ann "Brown Sugar" Wolfe collides with Laila "She Bee Stingin" Ali at Emperors Palace in July or early August.

This is how promoter Rodney Berman summed up the long-awaited clash between these two Americans who have been at each other's throats for three years.

Berman, who has an insatiable appetite for super-bouts, said yesterday that he, Damon Bingham (Ali's manager), Emperors Palace and SuperSport had a fruitful meeting last week regarding that proposed clash.

Wolfe is a former WIBA junior middle, IFBA, WIBC and IBA super middleweight champion with a record of 16 knockouts from 24 wins and one defeat.

The 36-year-old fighter is the the current IBA light heavyweight champion. Ali has always said that she needed to fight Wolfe to secure her credibility.

The talkative and sometimes over-confident daughter of Muhamad "The Greatest" Ali once declared Wolfe a coward who does not want to fight her.

Wolfe fired back her own salvo at Ali, but the fight did not happen because both fighters outpriced themselves.

"I asked Damon to negotiate with Wolfe's camp on my behalf. I have made them an offer that they just cannot refuse," said Berman who paid Ali $325 000 (about R2,5 million) for her demolition of Gwendolyn O'Neil at the weekend.
