Quartet strings the classics for charity

Lovers of classical music are set to be enthralled by the Soweto String Quartet on Saturday.

The classical music outfit play in a concert billedMidsummer Night's Waltz at Avianto Village, Driefontein Road in Muldersdrift, north of Johannesburg. It starts at 6.30pm.

Businesswoman and medical doctor Precious Moloi will be one of the speakers at this gala dinner-dance aimed at raising funds for the Cancer Association of South Africa.

The Soweto String Quartet will share the stage with well-known tenor Tiro.

The event will include an auction of paintings by famous artists such as Cornelius Bosch and two Persian carpets. Individuals and corporates are encouraged to book tables for R5000 a table for 10 guests or buy tickets for R1000 a couple.

The Soweto String Quartet has been around for a long time and have helped bridge the gap between classical music and popular music, making the genre accessible to a large number of people.
