An Mpumalanga man cycling on the roadside was killed when he was knocked over by a police vehicle on Sunday evening.

The man, estimated to be between 35 and 40, was travelling in the area of KaMhlushwa, near Malelane, when a police van knocked him down, killing him instantly.

Police spokesman Constable Mzwandile Nyambi said the body of the dead man was being kept at a government mortuary.

He appealed to people wanting to identify the body to contact the Tonga police station on 013-780-3144.

Nyambi said the police had opened a docket of culpable homicide.

l Sixty-eight illegal Mozambican immigrants in Mpumalanga were deported at the weekend.

The deportations follow police raids on farm dwellings and shebeens in Komatipoort and surrounding areas.

Police spokesman Constable Michael Ngomane said a large quantity of stolen goods, which included electrical appliances and car parts, had also been confiscated.
