Deborah Anne Venter, 46, a woman accused of helping prisoners to escape, was slapped with R1000 bail by the Port Shepstone magistrates' court yesterday.

Venter is alleged to have brought into the prison a saw blade that her son, Wade Schoeman, Fana Nhlumayo, Thandisizwe Mlangeni and Ntshikelelo Nqaza used to break free from Paddock police cells on January 30. They allegedly cut through the bars and escaped.

Schoeman and his gang are described as dangerous and have not been rearrested. Police have advised that they should not be approached.

They are facing charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and dealing in dagga.

The case was postponed to March 14.
