Two cricket players from previously disadvantaged communities are among 20 cricketers selected to attend a training camp at the Standard Bank National Academy in Pretoria, running from May to August.
The two are Brian Mathebula of Alexandra, who plays for the Highveld Strikers, and Mamelodi-based Abram Ndlovu, who features for the University of Pretoria's development cricket team.
Anton Ferreira, CSA's manager of coaching, said the four-month training camp will be held at Cricket South Africa's (CSA) High Performance Centre at the University of Pretoria.
"The aim of the training session is to assist our young and talented cricketers to make the transition from amateur to professional cricket,'' said Ferreira, who is also the head of the academy.
He further said the youngsters will undergo intensive training, physical and technical aspects of the game together with a comprehensive life skills programme.
The rest of the players are:
Yusuf Abdullah, Mohamed Akoojee, Martin Bekker, Bevan Bennett, Riyaadh Bhayat, Jaco Campher, Alistair Gray, Colin Ingram, Heinrich le Roux, Richard Levi, Lyall Meyer, Ross McMillan, Abdul Hack Razak, Warren Swan, Jean Symes, Esmund van Wyk, Neil Wagner and Lee-Roy Walters.
