The South African nder-23 national soccer side will have to be more aggressive upfront against the lesser-known Uganda during the 2008 Beijing Olympics first leg, second round qualifier at Olen Park on Wednesday, starting at 8.30pm.
This is according to Masilo Modubi, the Belgium-based defensive midfielder, who was speaking ahead of their first training session in Potchefstroom this afternoon to start sharpening themselves for the all- important match.
"There is no doubt that we have selected the best team, the approach for us on Wednesday night is to go out there and be ruthless," said Modubi.
"Winning the first leg convinc ingly will make it easier for us when we travel to Kampala for a return match on March 24. The pressure we faced when we played Namibia in the second leg match in Windhoek was not nice after winning 1-0 at home.
"We need to kill whatever little hope they may have of advancing to the next round here on home soil."
The winner of the two-legged qualifier will book a place in the group stages, which can be described as the final hurdle for those who want to be among the three countriesrepresenting Africa at the Olympics in China next year.
"We are ready for the Ugandans. The plan is to go all the way to the group stages and finish on top of ours in order to qualify for the Olympics," said Steve Komphela, the South African coach.
Komphela has included five youngsters who were in the team that won a bronze medal at the Doha International Friendly Youth Soccer Cup in Qatar last Thursday.
The five boys are Sibusiso Hadebe (Jomo Cosmos), Vincent "Stop Nonsense" Kobola (Winnerspark), Kirk Leray (FC AK), Tumelo Nhlapo and Nhlanhla Vilakazi (Lamontville Golden Arrows).
Barney Kujane, the team's project director, said Ntuka and Modubi would arrive in the country at 10am today.
Meanwhile, Nakedi Lekota will recommend to the South African Football Association (Safa) that they keep the Under-23 side that was a hit at the international youth tournament in Qatar intact.
Lekota, a Safa national executive committee member, was the team's head of delegation.
