Jabu Khanyile's first wife, Nomasonto Daphney Khanyile, said she was shocked to learn that her husband had divorced her.

Nomasonto, 49, finally filed an affidavit in the Johannesburg high court refuting claims by Khululiwe Gloria Sithole that she was the late musician's second wife .

Nomasonto had earlier filed an urgent application to stop Sithole from spending Khanyile's money. Sithole, 39, refuted the application, saying she was Khanyile's only wife because he had divorced Nomasonto. Sithole attached a copy of the divorce decree to her papers.

Nomasonto in a recently filed affidavit denied being divorced.

She said she would prove that she was still married to Khanyile and that Sithole was not lawfully married to him.

Nomasonto said Sithole lied that a R1,2 Naturena house had been registered in her and Khanyile's name.

"I attached a print-out from the deeds office which shows that she is lying," Nomasonto said in court papers, with a copy showing that the house is registered in the musician's name only.

Sithole was previously quoted as saying Nomasonto welcomed her as a second wife and introduced her to the Khanyile ancestors.

Nomasonto said: "I accepted her as the deceased's customary wife in 2005, but did not speak to the ancestors or perform any traditional ceremonies."
