Joseph Windsor Koaho was a man of many parts.
Born on November 6 1958, he was the son of the late Moses and Evelyn Koaho.
He married Thuli Ndlovu, with whom he had four children
Koaho started his schooling at Molaetsa Primary School then attended Thesele High School
In 1976 he joined the ANC and went into exile.
He joined the military wing of the ANC, Umkhonto we Sizwe. He trained in southern Angola and belonged to platoon 2 during the 1976 detachment, on which he excelled.
In 1978 he went to East Germany for further military training, returning to Angola when it was completed.
He served the organisation with all he had under impossible circumstances in Angola, where he encountered many enemies.
Between 1991 and 1994 he was a security officer at the World Trade Centre in Kempton Park during the Codesa negotiations.
He was later integrated into the SAPS's protection and security services in Johannesburg.
At the time of his death he was a captain and commander of operations in the SAPS's in-transit protection services.
He is survived by his wife and four children, two sisters and a brother.
Koaho will be buried tomorrow at Lenasia cemetery.
The service will be held at the Civic Centre, Wellington Extension 4, Lenasia, from 8am.
