The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) might intervene in the strike at the Modikwa platinum mine in Limpopo, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said yesterday.

"Maybe the time has come for outside intervention," said NUM chief negotiator Humbulani Tshikalange.

The strike began last week because of allegations of racism, but now the mine and the union cannot agree on the issue of a continuous working week.

"If ways are found to deal with the issue of continuous operations, we will call off the strike immediately," Tshikalange said. - Sapa
