Northern Zululand farmers and organised businesses are alarmed by the disbanding of the Empangeni Farm Watch, which had served the area for the past 15 years .

Members of the unit were withdrawn last week after the SAPS' restructuring process, which has seen the redeployment of staff in the former Umfolozi area office in Eshowe.

Farm Watch manager Larry Erasmus and committee members were to hold urgent talks with the Empangeni station commissioner to discuss its future.

The Zululand Chamber of Business said Farm Watch provided an important security service to the farming community, rural residents and the town itself. - Sapa
