LONDON- A man carrying a pitchfork was arrested after breaking into the grounds of Prince Charles' country home.

The 55-year-old man dodged security at the Highgrove estate of the heir to the British throne, but was grabbed by police before dawn on Tuesday as he approached the house, UK police said yesterday.

Charles and his wife, Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall, were asleep inside.

They recently returned from the US, where Charles accepted an award for his environmental efforts.

The intruder triggered an alarm and underground sensors. He was questioned then released on police bail pending further inquiries. - Sapa-AFP
