One player who is likely to cause an upset in this week's prestigious Nashua Masters is Omar Sandys.
He will be taking part in the event at the Wild Coast Sun Country Club from tomorrow until Sunday.
Sandys, who turned professional in 1999, climbed the leader board in Sunday's Dimension Data Pro-Am, finishing second to Louis Oosthuizen.
"I got unlucky at the 12th hole, but that was my own doing. Louis nailed a clutch putt at the 18th. He deserved the title. But I have three more chances this summer to win a title," he said.
Sandys pocketed R184000 on Sunday - the biggest cheque in his career - and moved up to ninth place on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit, the highest spot a black player has occupied since Swaziland's Joe Dlamini finished 23rd on the 1986/87 Order of Merit.
Among top names headlining this week's field is defending champion Warren Abery, Doug McGuigan and Hennie Otto, players who have their own special love affair with the Wild Coast.
Well aware of the strength of the field challenging for the title this week, Sandys remains confident that a win is around the corner.
"I feel on top of my game and I'm just really enjoying golf at the moment," he said.
