Reporter wrong to be pro-alcohol

I cannot believe that such a senior reporter does not have a problem with alcohol consumption at soccer games. He writes that because whities enjoy alcohol at cricket, darkies should drink at soccer.

His ideas are a reflection of a society that has no regard for alcoholism as long as its members are not personally affected by the problem.

Rabothata forgets that the man who drinks alcohol at a game will probably have to drive home and could cause an accident.

Alcohol does not always cause problems where it is consumed. Its unpleasant consequences, which do not only find expression in violent acts, are more often experienced elsewhere and insidiously so.

A relatively less harmful product from obvious evidence - the cigarette - is being removed totally from society. I don't know of anyone who died or was killed as a direct or immediate result of a cigarette or anyone who indulged in irresponsible behaviour because of a cigarette.

As a former smoker, I know about its dangers, but alcohol is a far greater enemy of humanity.
