Another local movie, Faith Like Potatoes, has made South Africa proud.
The inspirational film by Global Creative Studios was recently awarded the prestigious Golden Ten award at a film festival in Mumbai, India.
The Sport Movies and TV Festival was established in 1982. It has become the most important international festival dedicated to sports television and movies.
It has the patronage of the International Olympic Committee and is organised by the International Federation of Cinema and Television Sports.
Thirty-two countries participated in the event. Faith like Potatoes received the award for the best non-sport feature film.
This marks the young production companies' third international award for the film, which was also entered in the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, the Australian International Film Festival and Italy's Sabaoth International Film Festival, at which it won the people's choice award.
Locally, Faith like Potatoes continues to motivate and inspire audiences. Based on the autobiography of Angus Buchan and adapted for the big screen by Regardt van den Bergh, it tells the moving story of a Zambian farmer of Scottish heritage.
The lead is played by well-known South African actor Frank Rautenbach (Tiaan of 7de Laan fame).
The film recently won the best film award at the Kingdom Film Festival in Durban, at which filmmakers were given a platform from which to showcase their talent in a mainstream cinema.
The festival operates under the tag-line "Our vision, our stories", and is mandated to promote local filmmakers and screen performers.
Thefilm's double DVD has sold 35000 copies in only two months.
