An Mpumalanga prosecutor is living in fear, believing that her husband is planning to kill her.

Albert Makamu, 50, a control processor at Sasol, in Secunda, and the owner of a fleet of taxis, has been charged with conspiracy to murder his wife.

He appeared in the Mhala magistrates' court this week. He was not asked to plead and was released on R1000 bail. The case was postponed to February 26 for further investigation.

"My sister has lived in fear for her life and for the lives of her children since her husband was released from custody," said Grace Mahlale.

Mihloti Mahlale, a prosecutor at the Mapulaneng magistrates' court, refused to comment yesterday .

But, in her statement to the police, she said that her husband gave his bakkie to a sangoma so that he could travel to Mozambique to hire two hitmen.

Mahlale was granted a protection order against her husband.

Police found Mahlale's picture, underwear and some of her clothes at the home of the sangoma. The police confiscated the clothing.
