The University of Fort Hare will not support the proposal by the PAC to rename the university after the party's founder Robert Sobukwe.

University spokesman Luthando Bara said Fort Hare was known throughout the world as a place that had produced leaders who played key roles in the liberation struggle.

"As such there is no confusion about the legend of Fort Hare," said Bara.

The PAC said that naming the university after Sobukwe, a former student, would be a great way to honour him. - Sapa
