Wildcat strike over dividends

Durban bus drivers embarked on a wildcat strike yesterday over the non-declaration of dividends by the bus company Remant Alton.

Durban bus drivers embarked on a wildcat strike yesterday over the non-declaration of dividends by the bus company Remant Alton.

Workers own 30percent of the company, which was established when the eThekwini Municipality privatised its public bus service.

They resorted to industrial action after the company obtained an urgent interdict on Saturday preventing off-duty bus drivers from marching to the city hall.

"We are still waiting to engage management," said South African Transport and Allied Workers' Union spokesman Mlondi Memela.
