Two cops, two men up for assault

Four men, two of them policemen, appeared in the Kimberley magistrates' court yesterday in connection with the assault of a mineworker at the Tsitsikama mine near Plooysburg last year.

Four men, two of them policemen, appeared in the Kimberley magistrates' court yesterday in connection with the assault of a mineworker at the Tsitsikama mine near Plooysburg last year.

Chris Visser, 28, of Rhodesdene, and Dirk Leanardos Mitton, 28, of Royldene in Kimberley, appeared on charges of attempted murder and were granted bail of R10000 each.

Two policemen, Captain Arie Gerhardus Duvenhage, 35, and Inspector Willem Legoshe, of Modderrivier, appeared on charges of defeating the ends of justice and were granted R1000 bail each. The case was postponed to next month.

A mine employee, Jafta Pitso Molahlehi, 36, of Wolmaranstad, was allegedly assaulted and threatened with a firearm on April 10 after being accused of stealing diamonds. -Sapa
