The Gauteng Health Department is now not sure if it will help grieving mother Nobuhle Ndlebe, pictured right, to bury her twin babies this week.
This comes after the department delayed the burial of her twins, Lindokuhle and Lindelani, for a year because of a bungle at Natalspruit Hospital. The twins died at the hospital shortly after their birth in 2005.
The mix-up led to Lindokuhle's body being given to a woman from KwaZulu-Natal.
Lindokuhle was buried in June last year but the body has to be exhumed after the hospital admitted to the mix-up.
DNA tests were conducted on the exhumed body, but the results could determine if it was Lindokuhle.
The department told Ndlebe two weeks ago that they would help her with "whatever she needs". But yesterday it could not guarantee anything.
"All we can say is that we are processing her request," said Vusi Sibiya, a spokesman for the department.
In a letter to the department last week, Ndlebe expressed her wish to bury her babies in the Eastern Cape .
"After everything I have been through because of these people the least they can do now is not cause me additional pain," said Ndlebe.
