The Jacob Zuma RDP Education Fund and Raphahlelo Funerals gave two cheques of R5000 each to the best matric performers in the Sekgosese east district in Limpopo at the weekend.
The recipients were Nthuse Tshwale and Sydney Ndima from the Sekgosese Secondary School.
Tshwale got four distinctions - in computer studies, physics, biology, Northern Sotho - and Ndima got three distinctions - in Northern Sotho, maths and physics .
Tshwale is studying actuarial science at Wits University and Ndima is studying quantity surveying at the University of Johannesburg.
Speaking on behalf of the fund, Wandile Mkhize said that it is the wish of ANC deputy president, Jacob Zuma, to see previously disadvantaged best performers helped to further their studies.
Congress of South African Students (Cosas) president Kenny Motshe goa congratulated the school for doing the province proud.
"While we fight for the rights of pupils they should be well- behaved, respectful and honest towards themselves and people around them," Motshegoa said.
He said that the organisation did not condone bad behaviour, hooliganism and vandalism.
On Friday Raphahlelo Funerals bought sport kits for schools around Sekgosese east. Funeral parlour owner Freddy Raphahlelo said they invested in sports development because "a child in sport is a child out of prison".
Raphahlelo appealed to business and ordinary citizens to help schools in rural areas so that there would not be an exodus of pupils to urban schools.
