A new state of the art gymnasium will revitalise and promote a healthy lifestyle in the city of Johannesburg after the relocation of most clubs to elite areas because of lack of safety and security.

The Zone Fitness Life Centre Gym was launched last week.

South Africa's first 100 percent black- owned national gym franchise is based in Commissioner Street.

Jomo Mogorosi, general manager of the centre, said they decided to open the gym in the heart and soul of Egoli because most gyms had relocated to upmarket malls nearer the suburbs because of insecurity within the once- vibrant city.

"We invested R5 million in fitting out the gym with the latest equipment. The club is our vote of confidence in the Johannesburg CBD and it's revamping."

Junior Ramovha, assistant director, sports and recreation for the City of Johannesburg, praised Mogorosi and those involved with the company for displaying extraordinary confidence in investing in the inner city.

"We have pledged to establish a partnership with the Zone Fitness Centre in recognition of their establishment within the inner city,'' said Ramovha.

The classes are from Monday to Sunday, including public holidays.
