I was disappointed to read that the Department of Education is considering putting a stop to the wearing of school uniforms.

School uniforms entrench discipline and ensure that pupils have a feeling of identity and belonging to a specific school.

Also, the wearing of school uniforms makes it possible for less affluent parents to save money by buying school clothing from less expensive stores.

If school uniforms were done away with this would result in unfair competition among pupils with regard to clothing, adding an extra and unnecessary financial strain on parents.
