A member of the national executive committee of the ANC and KwaZulu-Natal secretary- general Senzo Mchunu confirmed yesterday that he had been summoned to appear before a commission probing the heckling of President Thabo Mbeki in Durban last month.
Mchunu downplayed his alleged involvement in the booing of Mbeki during the reburial service of ANC stalwart Moses Mabhida.
"I have to appear before the commission, but that does not mean I am assumed to have been an instigator of the walkout and booing of President Mbeki," he said.
"It [my actions] could have been mistaken. I was merely calming the people disrupting the service while the president was speaking," he said.
