The ANC in Limpopo has urged its branches to take an active interest in the education matters of the province to ensure that the matric pass rate improves at the end of the year.
Cassel Mathale, provincial ANC secretary, said the provincial ANC lekgotla, which followed the national lekgotla in Pretoria last week, has resolved that for the pass rate to improve it would require that the party branches support the schools in their areas and participate in school activities.
Limpopo experienced the lowest pass rate at 55percent in last year's grade 12 results. Mathale said they noted this with concern and urged all their branches to ensure they take an active interest in education matters.
Mathale said the lekgotla also resolved to call for the deracialisation of the economy.
"We have observed that the economy in the province continues to be white-dominated. This applies in all the areas. We resolved that to pay special attention to this particular area," Mathale said.
Mathale said that this year was going to be a hectic year for Limpopo because both the policy and national conferences would take place in the province.
"We urge all the people of Limpopo to be hospitable. Our people will be playing host to the big ANC gatherings and we therefore call upon them to be hospitable to the delegates."
