Bojanala Softball Association League, the league that caters for teams in Tshwane and North West, has experienced challenges in getting the new season programme under way.

The league encompasses several tertiary institutions, in addition to the clubs, and it has been the closure of the institutions that ensured matches at the Mbolekwa diamond in Atteridgeville a fortnight ago were attended by only six teams.

But TUT Rand chairman, Frans Maubane, pictured, assured softball lovers that everything would be back to normal as soon as students are back on campus early next month.

"The fixtures were drafted before students could arrive for the new term. But we hope to get everything sorted out in two weeks' time when they have all registered," Maubane said.

The league's deputy chairman, Trevor Mogale, insists the league was not adversely affected and that measures were put in place before the Christmas break.

"The games were not necessarily disrupted because we had foreseen the situation. We made sure that institutions played lots of games before the break to avoid them having too much to catch up on.

"They can only be active in the middle of next month. I want to make it clear that the institutions don't form the core of our association, they are associate members," Mogale said.

Meanwhile, the league continues to grow, with four new clubs joining Bojanala.

Mamelodi Unicorns, Mamelodi Sprincos, Letlhabile Aliens as well as Generals men's team have affiliated with the league, bringing the number of teams to 11.

Mogale said they were planning to hold the next games on February 10 at the Mamelodi East Softball diamond.
