Hundreds of previously unemployed young people this week graduated from a Letsema student project.
Letsema, a flagship of the Banking Sector Education and Training Authority (Bankseta), was launched in 2005 with the goal of helping 5000 unemployed young people over a period of five years in the banking sector.
The students were recruited and provided with hands-on workplace experience and skills development to empower their learning.
Last year 824 students from all nine provinces took part in the project.
"This was a good opportunity. It has opened doors to a brighter future. I learned a lot working in the different departments of banking and the courses we did. I can get a job and study further to become an auditor," said Loreanne Landsberg, 20, of Boksburg, Johannesburg.
Letsema has so far armed 3562 unemployed young people with skills in the financial sector, recognised workplace qualifications and work experience
Sipho Ngidi of Bankseta said: "This project sets you apart from other young people. Use it to reach the highest points in your careers."
