An 18-month-old baby girl found playing in a pool of blood next to the bodies of her slain parents will be sent for counselling.
Social worker Grace Mdluli said yesterday that the child had been affected by the sound of gunshots.
"The killing did not affect her because she did not see anything.
"She did not even realise that her parents were killed, but the sound of gunshots might affect her for the rest of her life if she does not get counselling," said Mdluli.
She said the toddler's foster parents would receive a monthly grant of R590.
The naked bodies of her parents were found in the house with gunshot wounds to the head.
The child was taken to a police station and was later claimed by relatives.
The child was discovered by a family friend who peeped through a broken window of the family home after no one responded when she knocked at the door.
She found the blood-soaked baby smearing the floor with blood near the bodies of her parents and called the police.
The police found the child struggling to crawl through the pool of blood towards her father.
Her parents, Raymond Sibiya, 30, and Nonhlahla Mnisi, 26, were shot in their house in Mkhuhlu in Mpumalanga on Sunday.
The toddler is in the care of a couple who are hoping to become her foster parents.
