Get rid of sense of entitlement

It is very good that the government is prosecuting those who have enriched themselves with money meant for the poor and the most deserving.

It is very good that the government is prosecuting those who have enriched themselves with money meant for the poor and the most deserving.

The unfortunate thing is that the government is to blame for the fraud. It is the ANC that doled out application forms for grants without any control. Almost every member and employee of the government gave out forms and it is not surprising that some of them ended up filling in the forms in themselves.

The government appealed to people to complete the forms, to ensure that the money was properly spent, but it did not give due regard to control.

Entitlement seems to be the order of the day in the ANC.

[ANC members] have been instructed to fill and occupy all positions, be it in school governing bodies, non-governmental organisations or community policing forums.

So it is not surprising that even those in other offices made this their way of empowering themselves.

While the courts go on with prosecuting the offenders, the Department of Social Development will have to rise to the occasion and do what is expected of it - which is to deliver social services and grants to the right and deserving people.
