Benoni Premier United collected maximum points when they beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 in an entertaining Castle Premiership game at Mehlareng Stadium yesterday.

United showed their intention from the outset when they literally camped in the opposition danger area.

They almost broke the stalemate as early as the seventh minute during one of their several raids but an interchange between Bernard Parker and Tsepo Masilela ended with the latter shooting wide in front of a gaping net.

Celtic also launched several attacks in the process but their dangerous attempts were thwarted by United's solid defence marshalled by Tsepo Masilela.

United took the initiative in the 27th minute when defender Katlego Loke's cross was converted by Bernard Parker with a powerful header (1-0).

The Rabbits put more pressure on Celtic's defence but failed to use their chances effectively through inaccurate shooting, with Obinna Okafor being the main culprit

United held on steadfastly to the slim lead until the break.

Both sides went all out in the second half as they tormented each other in search of goals.

In the 60th minute United brought Abayoni Adebayo on for Brian Kgafane and three minutes later July Mahlangu's strike hit the woodwork.

A minute later Ntokozo Sikhakhane of Celtic directed his shot over the bar after connecting with John Maduka's pass.

In the 77th minute United's Noel Yobou was called upon to make a daring save from the boot of Sikhakhane once more.
