Education, agriculture and environmental department officials in KwaZulu-Natal met Cosatu at the weekend to discuss the closure of four farm schools.
The schools, which are in Newcastle, Dundee, Greytown and Eshowe towns, were closed by farm owners.
The school in Eshowe was shut after the brutal mob killing of farm manager Kenneth Lionel Eva a fortnight ago.
Education Department spokesman Christi Naude said it wasagreed to engage farmers in an attempt to resolve the matter.
"We are committed to work together [for] our children.
"We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the children affected are accommodated at schools in the interim."
Cosatu's provincial secretary Zet Luzipho said the meeting was a good start.
"I hope it will bear fruit because it's long overdue."
