After winning the year's first Nedbank Matha Series half-marathon on Saturday, Shadrack Hoff said he owed it all to the doctor who managed to heal the left knee injury that has plagued him for more than three years.
The race, which Hoff won in 1hr:4min:20sec was held at the University of Pretoria. Hoff was delighted with his race afterwards, and said it was a sign of better things to come.
"I started out quite well and prayed that we would have passed the 10km mark after 30 minutes. Thankfully we had, and I still had strength and could still maintain the pace.
"But a big factor for me performing well here today has been the work done by my doctor in Rustenburg. My knee has healed and I now feel a lot more positive about my career. Just last night I received an invitation to participate in the Japan Marathon and I'm thrilled about it," he said.
Hoff was also full of praise for Norman Dlomo, who finished second, six seconds behind him. The two had been battling it out for most of the race, and only a late sprint saw Hoff claim the R20 000 first prize.
"This was my first race in three months as I've been resting, therefore I feel I did quite well," said Dlomo.
Newcomer Benedict Moeng was third.
The women's race was won by Mamorola Tjoka of Harmony Athletics club, followed by Mr Price's Poppy Mlambo and Tabitha Tsatsa, also of Harmony. Tjoka, who came in in a time of 1:16:18, was surprised by how tough the race was.
