Angry community members of Molweni, outside Durban, have called for justice when the trial of a suspect accused of raping and killing a girl resumes in the Pinetown magistrates' court on February 23.

During the funeral of the 13-year-old girl held at the weekend both her and the suspect's families appealed to the courts not to grant bail.

The girl's badly beaten and bloodied body was recovered at the bottom of a cliff last Tuesday. She had been raped and bludgeoned before being thrown off the cliff.

A 27-year-old relative of the young girl was arrested last week. - Canaan Mdletshe
