The Western Cape Directorate for Public Prosecutions is to decide the fate of Zimbabwean student Tinashe Rioga, 21, who allegedly tried to hijack an SAA flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg in June last year.

The Bellville regional court in Cape Town was informed of this when Rioga appeared on Friday after a month's observation at Valkenberg psychiatric hospital.

The court learnt an assessment report on the accused, which indicated whether or not he was fit to stand trial, had been sent to the directorate which would make a decision on the matter by January 26.

Rioga who faces charges of endangering the safety of aircraft passengers and of assault was remanded to Goodwood Prison. - Sapa
